Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
In late 1940, German authorities established the Warsaw Ghetto and forced all Jewish residents of Warsaw to move there. There a total of 400,000 Jews lived in 1.3 square miles of space. During two years of living in terrible conditions, over 83,000 Jews died of starvation and disease. Starting in July 1942, German police moved over 265,000 residents of the Warsaw Ghetto to the Treblinka killing center. Some decided to resist any further deportation.
